s: we dance when we can't make war
What is happening, this, here, right now, this is important. This is of monumental importance. We can't do much, we cannot take the baton-blows, we cannot break the lines of riot police, we cannot march through the streets of Tehran.

What we can do is what we do best; spread information in ways that are fast, efficient, and accessible, in ways that just might help tip the balance.

For a good overview of the situation, plus links to sources of information, I direct you to this post:

"On Friday, millions of people waited for hours in line to vote in Iran's Presidential election. Later that night, as votes came in, Mousavi was alerted that he was winning by a two-thirds margin. Then there was a change. Suddenly, it was Ahmedinejad who had 68% of the vote - in areas which have been firmly against his political party, he overwhelmingly won. Within three hours, millions of votes were supposedly counted - the victor was Ahmedinejad. Immediately fraud was suspected - there was no way he could have won by this great a margin with such oppposition. Since then, reports have been coming in of burned ballots, or in some cases numbers being given without any being counted at all...

The people of Iran took the streets and rooftops. They shout "Death to the dictator" and "Allah o akbar." They join together to protest. Peacefully. The police attack some, but they stay strong. Riots happen, and the shouting continues all night. Text messaging was disabled, as was satellite, websites which can spread information such as twitter, facebook, youtube, and the BBC are blocked in the country.

I also reposted [info]one_happy_frood's words into my journal. Thanks for directing me that way; I've been watching this unfold and am still at a lost for words...

Hey! Long time, no speak. *hugs*

Man, it's kind of horrically wonderful. I was literally in tears earlier this morning, looking at the photographs that have made their way out of Iran. That the people are standing up and fighting this is just awe-inspiring, and what's being done to oppress them is horrific. I just wish Obama had ballsed up and made a real statement rather than the placating shit he did say. I understand that there's probably a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff going down, but still. Urgh.

Icon twins! lol

Man, I was up for 36 hours straight today/yesterday following this on ONTDP and Twitter. I still check periodically, but I've been needing a rest, so I've been looking at other ONTDP and fannish stuff this past few hours.

Man, did I comment on your icons? I meant to, IDK, it was like 4am. They are beautiful.

It's just ... insanely overwhelming, emotionally, intellectually, politically; the response is amazing. What's happening in Iran on the streets, and how the internet is dealing with it is just mindboggling. I don't think there's been anything quite like this before. By which I mean, by god, I'm addicted too. BUT 36 HOURS? HOLY SMOKES. *checks your pulse*

Followed all day Sunday, was one of the handful that did their best to follow Twitter and help hold things down over at ONTDP overnight and in the wee hours of the morning. I finally crawled into bed for a 2-3 hours at around 5am before I was rudely awakened by landscaping crews in the apartment courtyard outside. So, I went back to checking twitter and keeping a window open with the ONTDP posts. I've been up ever since.

Now, I just need a break. lol I do care and I keep using the icons and checking periodically, but I need some other stuff to think about too.

We need some lulz here and there to help us out when dealing with the Srs Bsns. It can't be all ranting and pretty icons. ^^;;

Right? I heard the Daily Show had an awesome segment on Iran. *shakes fist at anti-streaming internet connection*
